Artist, Linda Marshall

According to my mother, I was drawing tiny cars at the age of 3. She kept my art work throughout the years, and when looking at the evidence, it’s obvious I’ve always been an artist at some level. During my college years, I had an opportunity to study art history and take some life drawing classes which I loved. After my two were in school, I submitted a piece of art to a members show at the Virginia Beach Arts Center. The first place prize was a one-person show in their gallery, which I filled with framed batiks. Each piece was a portraiture or a human figure, created with silks and black and brown dyes. This was the beginning of my professional art career.

During the many years between that first exhibit to the present moment, I have worked with a variety of mediums including dyes and silks, water colours, oils, acrylics, clay, bronze, pastels, graphite, fibre glass, and art glass to create paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, stained glass windows, and glass relief sculptures. My works are in private homes and businesses across the United States. Here in Omaha I have participated in the community arts: J. Doe II, and the Bench Marks Project. Recently, I was part of a team that painted extensive murals in churches with Richard Harrison.

My career in glass began with my painting for Jim Duda, in Grand Island, Nebraska, in 1997. Since that time, I have been painting on glass full time. In 2001, I established GLASS ALIVE, a glass painting studio, when I was at the Hot Shops Art Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Today, my son, Aaron Borelli and I offer a full service glass studio. Aaron creates glass humadors, art glass, and assists in the design, fabrication and installation of all the windows produced in the studio. Together, we create unique, personalized windows and glass work for churches, homes and businesses.
